Naked & Famous x Street Fighter

Naked & Famous Denim is an international apparel company based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, operating out of the oldest existing shirt factory in North America.  As self-professed denim nerds, they only use Japanese Selvedge denim and proudly to this day make, cut and sew all their products here in Canada.  Personally speaking, as a big fan of their products even before collaborating with them, I still find it a great honour many years later and still enjoy all of their products.

This collaboration brings my connection with Udon Comics and the denim brand together in time for the 30th Anniversary of Street Fighter.  Partnered with Capcom, Naked & Famous is making a limited series of denim inspired by characters from the original series.

I helped design and create the logo, designed custom leather back jean patches, the special embroidery, and the jean flashers using official licensed artwork and others provided by Udon Comics.

Naked & Famous Made in Japan

This was the first time I was commissioned to do work with Naked & Famous Denim.  Working in collaboration my good friend and amazing artist, Alvin Lee, we re-conceived a manga styled interpretation of Naked & Famous' iconic pop-art girl to represent their new line of Made in Japan denim.  This was a big step for the company as they had previously made all of their other products here in Canada.  This denim line was extremely successful and has since been brought back several times with slight alterations to the fabric and features.

Rebel Lion

This was a fun project with my good friend, Lou Kang.  The last time we collaborated was way back in the day when we worked as comic book illustrators at a studio called Dreamwave Productions.  He was the lead penciller and I drew the backgrounds.

Naked & Famous Special Collaborations

I have been designing many of the custom leather patches and pocket flashers for Naked & Famous Denim over the last several years which includes those for their core designs but also for their special collaborations with vendors and seasonal special edition releases.

All of the illustrations here were done by Steve Mack, with only the Pronto / N&F and the Vulgar Selvedge projects where I also did the colours as well as the inks and vectorization for the custom leather patches.

Naked & Famous Chinese New Year Denim

As an international apparel company who specializes in Japanese Selvedge denim and a large part of the products in East Asian markets, it seemed like a natural fit for the company to release a special edition Chinese New Year denim commemorating the coming of every lunar new year.

We launched the first series of this design in 2016 with the Fire Monkey Denim featuring illustration by Alvin Lee.  My contributions to the project are the inking of the line art to be used for the custom leather patch and the design for the gold foil treatment on the pocket flasher.

The Fire Rooster and Earth Dog designs were illustrated by artists Alvin Lee and Steve Mack respectively in subsequent years.

Schoolism Promos

Schoolism is an online art school started by renowned award-winning illustrator and concept artist, Bobby Chiu in 2006.  As a lifelong student and teacher himself, he pursued knowledge from the industry's best which became the inspiration for what Schoolism is to this day, a practical, affordable, and accessible alternative for art education to the traditional brick and mortar art schools we were once only accustomed to.

I was worked as a designer for them between the years 2012-2014 and I couldn't say anything but great things about the team and the great artists I met in my time there.

Here are a few selections from the class promo materials I designed for them.  It was a great collaborating with such great artists and their artwork.

Imaginism Promos

Imaginism Studios are a collective of artists featuring Bobby Chiu and Kei Acedera that are focused on fine art and concept design work primarily for animation and feature films.  Some notable projects they have worked on are for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, Men in Black III, and their own Emmy Winning animated series, Niko and the Sword of Light.

These promos were used for email newsletters and social media to create awareness for appearances and new product releases.
